Welcome to the new blog

We better start with introductions.  If you are not a member of Bernardo Heights Country Club, let me tell you a little about this facility.  BHCC was built in 1981 and the course was designed by the well known golf course architect, Ted Robinson.  We are located 20 miles north of downtown San Diego and 12 miles inland from the Pacific.  Get more info at bhcc.net

I've been the golf course superintendent at Bernardo Heights for nearly 2 months after working at Stockton Golf and Country Club for the last seven years.  If you would like to see my previous blog, now in the hands of superintendent, Rob Williams, visit www.sgccturf.blogspot.com

So what's the point of this website?  Golf course maintenance blogs are the bulletin boards of the future.  Not too long ago, all the info about course maintenance and conditions were shared with a select few at Green Committee meetings and word of mouth from there on.  The masses got their course notes from the cork board by the proshop, the monthly newsletter, or a flyer above the urinal (still a pretty effective location).  Now, there are so many new tools to keep you informed as a concerned member of the club.

To begin with, the blog will serve that function.  Other possibilities include E-blasts, You Tube, and Twitter.  Just like actual maintenance on the course, we'll take this one step at a time.

Upcoming blog posts will include information on the health of the greens, the plan going forward, the good and bad of paspalum collars, the ugliness and benefit of transition, water prices that will make you cringe, staff profiles, and even some highlights of our mascot, a beautiful black swan.

We have plenty to work on, plenty to work with, and potential that is overflowing with possibilities.  Check back often and shoot me an email if you have questions, comments, or even complaints.  I'll read all of them with the same set of eyes.
